Um, why was it nuked from the repository?
I'd expect that 'cvs log' would still work:

miyu% cd /usr/cvs/othersrc/
miyu% ls -lad bootstrap-pkgsrc
ls: bootstrap-pkgsrc: No such file or directory
miyu% cvs log bootstrap-pkgsrc/Makefile | head
cvs [log aborted]: no such directory `bootstrap-pkgsrc'
