Agreed.

I don't see why it should... I'd like to be able to do some stuff in
ddb in diary mode, continue (possibly looking at the message buffer
using userland tools), go back to ddb, do more, go back to
userland, etc.

The penalty seems extremely minor -- the next time you escape to ddb,
commands continue to go in the diary. Since this is parobably
a rare occurance, it seems unlikely to inconvenience anyone.

Am I missing something obvious?
