We probably should, and I'll give you the first data point:

There was one tiny patch needed to get e2fsprogs going on NetBSD, which
I've sent back to the author. While doing so, I've asked him if he would
want to release his work under a second (BSD) copyright, so that we could
use his work more easily. I'll let you know when I get a reply.
