description:
update a bit. delete ports that have switched to GCC 4.8. with this
we still need significant work on these ports:

        - mips*
        - powerpc
        - sh*
        - vax
        - m68k*

the x86 platforms are probably ready to switch, but i'm not in a good
position to test them. these platforms are probably ready to switch,
as they're still mostly in bringup mode anyway:

        - powerpc64
        - coldfire
        - ia64
