samba/nmbd unable to find interface in domu

I'm seeing this on a current domu running the latest pkgsrc version of 
samba:

[2008/03/28 14:26:05, 0] nmbd/nmbd_subnetdb.c:create_subnets(191)
 create_subnets: Waiting for an interface to appear ...
[2008/03/28 14:32:11, 0] nmbd/nmbd.c:reload_interfaces(229)
 reload_interfaces: No subnets to listen to. Shutting down...

And when I specify xennet0 as the interface:

I've actually been seeing this for some time, right around when dhcpd 
was being discussed and there was some network related breakage in 
pkgsrc due to some software obtaining an interface value incorrectly. I 
assumed samba was one of these packages ... but some time has passed and 
I haven't heard a whisper.

Is this domu specific? I don't particularly want to install samba to my 
dom0 just to check ... but it's a possibility ...
