I get the latter occasionally, but the situation is different: there's
usually a hang during autoconf[*], and pressing a key unsticks it, and
also sometimes gives the timeout message.


[*] I'm not sure if this is because of new hardware or new NetBSD, and
    as the old hardware is rather dead, I can't find out that way.
