I've been avoiding Intel for years. I can even tell you why:

Serious reasons:

 * Sueing people for using the term "inside" in their domain name or whatever.
 * Contracts that forbid selling AMD hardware.
 * Power consumption and heat generation of Intel CPUs.

Not-so-serious reasons:

 * The Pentium-4 disaster (slower than Pentium III).
 * Trying to hide the fact (from non-technical consumers) that they licensed
   AMD64 technology.
 * The Pentium FPU bug clearly showed that Intel cooks with water just like
   anyone else.
 * Wintel.
 * Idiotic marketing: "MMX for more colors" or nonsense like that.
