that's pretty nifty.  but it's another box to power.  (:

it looks like I can just make a baud rate convertor from 31250 to 38400
and vice versa: http://www.maxmidi.com/diy/serial/ .

I'll just have to write some device driver glue to make /dev/midi talk
to the right port(s).  it should be usable on all platforms that have
serial ports capable of 38400 baud.
