Yes. Flash PROMS can be cleared only page by page. The pagesize depends
on the device, it is often 64 kB or 128 kB. Special reads / writes to
special parts of the Flash are required to get this happen. The exact
sequence depends on the device.

Yes. I also had the idea to use JTAG. But this requires even more in
depth knowledge of the machine.
