As a check, I just built the same exact suite on my DECstation
5000/200 crate running 1.5A (yeah I know, I need to update....)
and it has compiled perl5 fine, and is now done with lmbench.
I suspect there is a monkeywrench in the VAX port patching or
configgy pudding somewhere that would catch this normally?

Any insights or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks
