In my m76 there is a DALLAS clock chip. The batteries in those chips are
supposed to last for years, so on modern machines there is no need to
replace. This, being a VAX, might need to be replaced. What I did on a
motherboard I had, was to desoder the chip, and solder a chip socket on
the MB, then replace the chip, which you should be able to find. This not
only allows for less risk in heating up the MB, but also gives you more
flexibility for future replacements (it might be in another 10-15 years,
but remember: it's a VAX. It will never die).
