It turns out to have been a corrupted kernel image.  I found a 1.4.1
SCSI debug kernel, and it's running multi-user now.

BTW, the November snapshot does NOT include kernels suitable for
network booting :-/

From the boot program, I guess... *shrug*

Well, I'm building a -current kernel now.  I'll let you know how it
turns out in a couple of days :-)
