I found the problem. the install program was calculation the partition =
size improperly. Once I changed it so that it fit on the disk it =
formatted fine. Its installing as I write this. Is there a way to get =
the install program to use partitions on several disks? I would like to =
put my /usr file system on the 330meg ESDI and the swap partition on the =
180. (the 180 meg disk is MUCH faster than the 330)

Subject: Installing 1.4.1 on microvax II

I have been trying to install NetBSD on my VAX for awhile. I reduced =
the configuration to only the processor,memory,RQDX3 and QD21. After =
some troubleshooting I found a bad cable and now it boots off the 1.44 =
meg floppy. (it thinks it is a 1.2 and I set the bios on a FreeBSD PC =
the same way to create boot disks.) Everything checks out and I low =
level formatted two ESDI disks from the FRD on the QD21. When I boot the =
system with the 1.4.1 install disk and attempt to install NetBSD it =
fails telling me that my disks are full. After many failed attempts I =
tried a 1.3.2 install disk. After writing the disklabel with edlabel,it =
no longer fails with the disk full error. I then choose a standard =
installation on either rd0 or rd1 (rd0 is a 160 meg Seagate,rd1 is a 330 =
meg Micropolis). I accept the default partitions.Disklabel runs =
successfully. It then runs newfs on /dev/rra0a. This completes =
successfully. newfs then runs again on /dev/rra0d. This time it =
immediatly aborts with the following error message:

  STATUS:Failed
  Command:/sbin/newfs /dev/rra0dra0: invalid command (unknown subcode) =
(code)
   Press any key to continue
