There was a recent discussion on comp.os.vms concerning
this very subject.   The news was not good.  Apparently
the Vax does not do IEEE floating point format so the
data integrity suffers (something about the Vax rounding
in a different direction than IEEE).

Anyway, unless someone can come up with a way to emulate
IEEE arithmetic on the Vax it would appear to be a dead
issue.
