When you say "hangs on INIT", if you mean the VMS INITIALIZE command, as
in:
$INIT MUA0: ""
then this is a problem with your tape or tapedrive. It has nothing to do
with NetBSD. I would say that you most likely have a problem with the
tape, since the drive worked with the first tape.
