Mathew,

My goofy workaround for this is to set up a ping every 5 seconds from
another machine.  It keeps the ring overrun messages away, and the network
response is decent.  I run a VS3500 with a DELQA netbooted from a Linux
box.  Since you're booting the machine from a local disk, this may not
work, but it's easy to try ;)
