(Blush). I found the problem. My attempt at multiuser mode
had me changing the terminal's bits/parity. At 7 even it
doesn't want to proceed. I realized this when I realized it
wasn't prompting me for the language, and that too was a
change from the norm (low/bad battery pack I think).
So I guess I did change *something* afterall :-)
