There is (or was) an RZDISK utility for VMS and Unix and PCs (and even the 
Amiga?) which allowed tweaking of various SCSI disk mode page bits. In 
particular it could be used to make older RZ drives spinup on power on rather 
than waiting for a command. (Newer drives have this function accessible via a 
jumper).
