I'll answer that myself:

It's not. I finally bit the bullet and moved the TK50 to an Ultrix 
system. I copied the files using dd:

dd if=tk50-file1-10a of=/dev/nrmt0h bs=512
dd if=tk50-file2-10a of=/dev/nrmt0h bs=512

Still the same problem when booting. What am I doing wrong?
