Subject: SCSI Kernel Flags for DEC DSP3107LS?

We're having trouble getting a DEC DSP3107LS to work with NETBSD/Sun3.

Has anyone had success with this drive/system combination?

Are there jumper or kernel flags that might be more likely to work, or for that
matter does anyone know if DSP3017LS is a write-off for this installation?

The drive seems quite healthy when formatted on a Macintosh, and I have no reason
to think it is DOA, although it is used.

The bus on a 3/60 has......

sd0: Quantum ProDrive 210S at ID 0; works fine.
sd1: DEC-made DSP3107LS at ID 1 (the line was later bought by Quantum); fails
to config

Tried on a very current kernel:

NetBSD 1.2B (SPATULA) #0: Tue Oct 29 05:55:40 EST 1996
[ ... ]
si0 at obio0 addr 0x140000 level 2 : options=1
scsibus0 at si0
sd0 at scsibus0 targ 0 lun 0: <QUANTUM, PD210S SUN0207, 492S> SCSI2 0/direct
f
ixed
sd0: 199MB, 1156 cyl, 7 head, 50 sec, 512 bytes/sec
ncr5380_machine: unexpected disconnect.
ncr5380_machine: unexpected disconnect.

(and the drive at SCSI ID 1, which should come up as sd2, does not config.)

And also on a much older kernel:

NetBSD 1.1B (SPATULA) #0: Fri Mar 22 21:22:50 EST 1996
[ ... ]
si0 at obio0 addr 0x140000 level 2: options=3
scsibus0 at si0
sd0 at scsibus0 targ 0 lun 0: <QUANTUM, PD210S SUN0207, 492S> SCSI2 0/direct
f
ixed
sd0: 199MB, 1156 cyl, 7 head, 50 sec, 512 bytes/sec
ncr5380_machine: unexpected disconnect.
ncr5380_machine: unexpected disconnect.

(again the drive at SCSI ID 1, which should come up as sd2, does not config.)

In both cases, no "flags" were set in the kernel config, and si_options was
left alone in the older kernel (but doesn't seem to exist anymore in the new
kernel build).

Jumper setting on the DEC drive are as follows.....

Jumper settings:

Spin Up: jumpered
AC Low: not connected
Reserved: not connected
SP Sync: not connected

Termination seems correct.

There is a set of three jumpers elsewhere, labeled Termination:

Power: not jumpered
Unused: not jumpered
Enable: jumpered

Regards and TIA,
