If I boot my 3/75 using the SCSI_TEST kernel with ID

NetBSD 1.1_ALPHA (SCSI_TEST) #19: Mon Nov 6 15:19:18 EST 1995
    gwr@venus:/play/gwr/netbsd/work/src/sys/arch/sun3/compile/SCSI_TEST

and then try to run X11R6, several of the programs called by
my .xinitrc (among them awk, sed, tr, tty, and csh) core dump.
so, for that matter, does gdb.

On the other hand, if I boot this kernel:

NetBSD 1.0A (GENERIC) #31: Mon Aug 21 16:38:21 EDT 1995
    gwr@venus:/play/gwr/netbsd/work/src/sys/arch/sun3/compile/GENERIC

X11R6 starts up just fine (though it takes forever)

I examined the coredumps using gdb under this kernel.
They tell me that the programs died with signals 10
(all except csh) and 11 (csh) but all attempts to get a stack
backtrace result in 'Cannot access memory at address 0x0.'

p.s. here's the probe output from the machine:
