Sounds like way too much work for a Sunday.

For the record the SPARC S7-2 has a USB port at the front and the
Solaris 11.4 installer boots and runs from there just fine. So it
may be possible to boot something else other than Solaris. Then
again, who knows? I surely do not.

I have succesfully booted a NetBSD install iso from the usb port using an
external usb cdrom/dvd drive.
Some of the devices (network, disk) may fail to configure properly and I
haven't had time to fix this yet..

You may get further with a ldom setup, but please try both scenarios and let us know the outcome.

It is packed full of SAS right now. I may pull those disks out and
then get some toss away SAS test disk and try a hardware boot. No LDOM.

That is likely easier. I don't know. I have a few other systems with the
SAS back plane(s) so maybe I can setup a disk in advance with a NetBSD
okay filesystem. Not sure really.

This is not exactly a documented process ya know. :)
