Since you're using an afb the driver will be unaccelerated as long as
nobody loaded a firmware image into the card. You can do this on startup
from rc.local or whatever you want. What you need is the afbinit utility
( in pkgsrc/sysutils/afbinit ) and a firmware image. Due to licensing
problems we can't distribute it but on (almost? ) all halfway recent
Solaris installations you can find it as /usr/lib/afb.ucode. Copy it to
your NetBSD box, run the utility and start X - now it should be
accelerated.

btw. the Xserver should leave a notice in /var/log/XFree86.0.log about
acceleration status and if it's disabled because there's no firmware
running on the card it should say so.
