The Ultra 2's with the 167 USI were great, I've used one. I have a newer U2, the Enterprise edition with upgraded prom (3.11), ram, and 400 cpu modules, running 64-bit mode and it does circles around any of the wintel boxes around here. Only problem is that smp doesnt work and won't for a long time, but I now understand why it shouldn't. (Stability) cheers der Mouse :)

And while you're wishing... :-)

You don't say why it has to be *recent* Sun hardware, so I have to
wonder if a U1/U2 or maybe a pre-sparc64 box would do. They certainly
work just fine for me; the recent mania for hardware capable of running
recent bloatware has produced a perception that they're too slow to be
useful, which as far as I can tell is illusory. They do still do
everything they ever did, after all.

If what you're trying to show off is how well NetBSD runs on recent Sun
hardware (as a propaganda effort, say), then of course it's pointless
to consider an older box. But if you just want something with the Sun
logo on the front....
