in an u5 or u10 a random ata100 card will massively increase the
performance.  going from the onboard 2x 9GB 7200 rpm ata33 to
2x 40GB 5400 rpm ata100 roughly doubled the speed of MH scan(1).
later upgrading to 2x 120GB 7200 rpm sata150 roughly doubled it
again... :-)  and that still not getting any tagged queuing
benefits (though write cache allows me to see upto 1000 tps across
the raid..)
