Had some 17 of these arrive at work, so thought I would see how NetBSD
runs on one.

I grabbed the latest snapshot I could find; "snapshot/20030207-1.6N".
netbooted, NFS'ed the netbsd-INSTALL.gz [1] and it comes up.

Full dmesg follows, but most importantly are:

hme0 at pci1 dev 1 function 1: Sun Happy Meal Ethernet, rev. 1
hme0: interrupting at ivec 3021
hme0: Ethernet address 08:00:20:d9:d1:40
ukphy0 at hme0 phy 0: Generic IEEE 802.3u media interface
ukphy0: OUI 0x0006b8, model 0x000c, rev. 1
ukphy0: 10baseT, 10baseT-FDX, 100baseTX, 100baseTX-FDX, auto
hme1 at pci1 dev 3 function 1: Sun Happy Meal Ethernet, rev. 1
hme1: interrupting at ivec 301a
hme1: Ethernet address 08:00:20:d9:d1:40
ukphy1 at hme1 phy 0: Generic IEEE 802.3u media interface
ukphy1: OUI 0x0006b8, model 0x000c, rev. 1
ukphy1: 10baseT, 10baseT-FDX, 100baseTX, 100baseTX-FDX, auto

hme0 is the device I just netbooted. However, if I try to configure it I
can not get it to work.

# ifconfig hme0 192.168.30.251 netmask 255.255.255.0
# ifconfig -a
hme0:
flags=8a63<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,ALLMULTI,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST>
mtu 1500
         address: 08:00:20:d9:d1:40
         media: Ethernet autoselect (100baseTX full-duplex)
         status: active
         inet 192.168.30.251 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.30.255
hme1: flags=8822<BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
         address: 08:00:20:d9:d1:40
         media: Ethernet autoselect

# ping -n 192.168.30.37 (this is the host I just netbooted from)
PING 192.168.30.37 (192.168.30.37): 48 data bytes
5 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100.0% packet loss

And on .37, if I tcpdump I see:

tcpdump -n host 192.168.30.251
19:54:53.433398 arp who-has 192.168.30.37 tell 192.168.30.251
19:54:53.433419 arp reply 192.168.30.37 is-at 0:b0:d0:d3:15:7d
19:54:54.442289 arp who-has 192.168.30.37 tell 192.168.30.251
19:54:54.442310 arp reply 192.168.30.37 is-at 0:b0:d0:d3:15:7d

...when I ping.

I have read the lists, one pointed out that the ether addresses are both
the same, so I tried:

ok setenv local-mac-address? true

which it accepted, but as you can see in dmesg, they still appear the same.

Someone else had two ukphy assigned to hme0, I don't appear to, so
perhaps that was fixed.

I tried the same ifconfig on hme1 and it works fine. So I can at least
proceed and install NetBSD.

[1] The sparc64 FAQ shows how to set up and boot bios from "boot net
netbsd.INSTALL.gz" when the filename on disk is actually
"netbsd-INSTALL.gz". This had me fooled far longer than it should have!
