Is it more likely to be the CPU module (it's got a HyperSPARC 125
MHz CPU) or a dead motherboard?
In a previous incarnation, my primary E-mail host was an SS20 with 150
MHz HyperSPARC CPU; one day it died, and hoping that it was merely the
CPU, I swapped in a spare HyperSPARC CPU that I had around, and, lucky
me, the system booted again and ran acceptably for some years until I
replaced it with a Sun Fire V120.
This, of course, is anecdotal, not definitive.
I don't think you have much to lose by trying a different Mbus CPU
module in your SS20. However, it might be a good idea to check that
all the outputs of the power supply are up to snuff (you're actually
getting +5vdc and +12vdc in the right places), before swapping in new
hardware.
