Nevertheless, it works for me:

pavel@beta:~$ LC_MESSAGES=fr ksh
pavel@beta:~$ ls /rien
ls: /rien: Fichier ou répertoire introuvable

BTW what does it have to do with sparc? Is it a sparc specific problem? I
tried only on alpha and i386, but a sparc specific bug seems unlikely.
