Have a look at /usr/X11R6 - the default is Xsun but XFree86 may be 
installed as well.
Make sure your kernel uses wscons, without that XFree86 won't work.
That said, I'm not sure the XFree86 stuff has been pulled into 3.x, in 
doubt grab -current binaries from releng.netbsd.org
