decoding mp3 does take a bit of cpu grunt to do. I know with some of
the older laptops I had I could not play mp3's and compile at the same
time. That and sometimes authors will generate assembly code for i386
processors but have generic C code for other processors so even on a
lower spec i386 box the program will perform better.
