If at all possible, pre-format the floppy you want to use on a
vanilla MS-DOS:
        > format a: /u /f:1.44 /v:netbsdsparc

Format the disk on a NetBSD/sparc machine, preferably of the
same type you intend to install, or at least one with the same
make/model of floppy drive:
        # fdformat
There MUST be all "V"s across the screen (no errors or "E"s).

Write the install file to the floppy in small blocks:
        # dd if=instfs.tgz of=/dev/rfd0a bs=512 conv=sync

If it still doesn't work, there may be a problem (such as needing
cleaning) with the floppy drive; yes, even though disk1 boots okay.
