A lot of the sparc 4c,4m and even 4u Ultra 1's are fast becoming scrapper
fodder at the auction I frequent. I picked up several PALLETS of sparc stuff
including 3 ultra's a couple of ss10' ss20 and ss5 including a SS5 175mhz and
an untold amount of 411 cases a couple of 611 cases, a sparcstorage array sans
disks and various sun/sparc miscellany for about $5. I left behind several of
the big 20" monitors as I have no more room in the truck. If I don't buy it it
goes to the scrapper there, and now they are not even buying the stuff, so it
goes to the trash.
A lot of older sun stuff goes unsold on ebay. You hardly see anymore ss1/2,
ss10/20/5/4 as they are not worth it to ship, much less to sell.
I buy the stuff mainly for parts for my existing machines which I use all the
time for mostly dns, mail, gateway or dhcp machines.
But I do get some good finds, as no one buys the sun stuff anymore. On an
innocuous looking pallet of old sparcs I got an ultra 10 400Mhz w/1 gb of
mem, 3d creator, and two ide drives of 18 and 45 gb for about $10 last month.
Now that I can use on my desktop!!!
Cheers
Tom
