Is the DCHS one of the drives that support variable block size?  If so, you
will need to format it with 512 bytes block size.  The scsictl command in
-current (it's not in the 1.6 branch) supports the SCSI 'format blocksize'
command, so it should be possible to reformat the disk with this.
