Just been looking over the docs at docs.sun.com - am I right
in thinking the SIMM banks are all over the shop on this model?

 (SparcStation/Server 20)

I'm asking because I tried installing 1.5.2 last night and got the

  pmap_bootstrap: no memory

error; the thread I found on Google recommended fitting the RAM
in from the back forward (so slot 0 was filled).

This is how they're filled on this box.
Now I've just had a look at the service manual, and it seems like the slots
are filled in a totally random order , from the back forward they go:

 slot0, slot2, slot5, slot3, slot6, slot1, slot7, slot4

An easier fix would be to just install current, but I followed the INSTALL
steps to the letter and got 'bad magic number in disk label', so that
 doesn't seem doable.

I've actually lost the box at the moment (the framebuffer is blank(, but I
think that's because I only shoved the SIMMS in, rather than hitting them
with a lump hammer, so hopefully I can retry tonight ......

I dunno. First trip out of Wintel land and you'd think I was using alien
 technology or something.... <g>
