as michael says... xconsole should handle this, as should running an xterm 
with -C flag. there is a gotcha with permissions of the console device tho... 
i think theres a nifty way to automatically handle this (rather than just 
chmod'ing 666) so that the user on the console owns the device. i'm sure 
someone here will know.
