OK, I'm at a bit of a dead end on how to even try it out.

I followed Charles Carvalho's post/PR on setting Xsun24 to TrueColor
Then I mknod /dev/cgfourteen0 c 99 0;chmod 666 /dev/cgfourteen0
Then I made a 1.6_BETA kernel with "options CG14_CG8"
Then startx -- /usr/X11R6/bin/Xsun24.truecolor -dev /dev/cgfourteen0

AFAICT this is supposed to work, but nothing shows up in 24 bpp.

Any suggestions (and why is the cgfourteen0 device not made by default)?

Thanks,
