Problem resolved.  I just found out that the 1.5.3 builder accidentally 
had a local modification in his source tree.  (DEBUG in 
lib/libcurses/Makefile)  He's rebuilding now, I think.

Proof that it's good to test stuff before it's released, eh?  :)
