some firmware versions are supposed to have problems with 
autotermination.

Further some devices are supposed to have problems with the 
2940uw (or some firmware on it) if some settings in the 
firmware are not set. OTOH as long as the adaptec is not 
needed for booting, it should be possible to adjust these 
settings with the driver.
