There is a lot of good information about NVRAM replacement in the article at:

I was able to use the information on that page to figure out how to use a
dremel tool to grind into a dead NVRAM that was in a Sparc IPC I bought on
eBay, solder in leads to an external 3 volt lithium battery, reprogram all
the info and get it initialized to work without any error messages.
