Actually, if I read the original post correctly, he's seeing the same
problem I'm seeing when replacing the original chip with a STmicro
chip:

ok reset

SPARCstation 2, No Keyboard
ROM Rev. 2.4.1, 64 MB memory installed, Serial #12615662.

Power-On SelfTest FAILED ... Replace NVRAM

If anyone knows a workaround for -this- I'd appreciate it.  Funny part
is that my ss1+ has had the same prom change and does not exhibit this
behavior (My guess is the ancient rom on it isn't as picky during post).
