the netboot server can be anything you want, as long as it can speak
the same language as the sun that's trying to boot. that meant (for
me, at least, when i was netbooting my sparc-clone) i had to set up:
* rarpd and /etc/ethers: to tell the sparc its ip address
* bootparamd and /etc/bootparams: to tell the sparc how to boot
* tftpd and /tftproot: to deliver the boot blocks and kernel
* rpcbind, /etc/exports, mountd, and nfsd: to serve filesystems
anything you can get that can do all that (any unix box should be
fine) can operate as a boot server. these services don't all need to
be on the same box either.
