Im trying to setup a ppp modem connection on ttya using a SPARCClassic using
a serial terminal on ttyb under NetBSD 1.4.2
I referred to the (well-known) SUN Hardware FAQ, wich states:
********************************
+ DB25 A/B serial ports on SPARCstation SLC, ELC, others?
1 unused 9 unused 17 A-RxC (receive clock)
2 A-TxD 10 unused 18 unused
3 A-RxD 11 unused 19 B-RTS
4 A-RTS 12 B-DCD 20 A-DTR
5 A-CTS 13 B-CTS 21 unused
6 A-DSR 14 B-TxD 22 unused
7 A&B-GND 15 A-TxC in (?) 23 unused
8 A-DCD 16 B-RxD 24 A-TxC out (transmit clock out)
25 unused
Note that only port A has full modem control.
+ DB25 A/B serial ports on SPARCstation LX, SPARCclassic, and
SPARCstation 10, others?
As for the SLC/ELC, but with additional signals for the B port:
11 B-DTR 18 B-TxC in 25 B-TxC out
********************************
now, the cable seems ok to me, and I can use it for console I/O on either
port A/B, but when it comes to connecting the modem it just hangs with the
DTR on...
same behaviour on both ports, but as I can read from the FAQ only port A has
full modem control, so that I configured the prom to get I/O from ttyb and
attached the modem on port A.
Now, since I re-checked the whole thing at least 200 times, and considering
that both parts of the Y cable work fine for cosole usage, I am starting to
think that the problem may lie in my NetBSD modem configuration...pls excuse
my ignorance..but I think (and Im probably wrong) that on a simple "echo ATZ
>/dev/ttya" I should see the leds flashing on the front panel of the
modem...am I missing something?
