I am making progress, but have run into something I can't find an answer
to. I got the boot cd to mount on an external cd drive. For some reason,
it won't mount on the internal.

I copied the kernel over to /, and tried to boot, and no luck
bad format is what the booter says.

It boots from the cdrom, any idea what I'm doing wrong?
I tried extracting the kernel from the sets, and copying the kernel from
the boot section of the cd, same result both ways.
