For what it's worth, I've never had any luck with the serial side of the
magma cards though I've tried two different types of the card with 1.4,
1.4.1 and 1.4.2 on a classic, lx, SS5, SS20.

I haven't jumped to 1.5 on a sparc yet, should I expect it to work there?
