You gave quite a good description of the small VME enclosure used by
Sun 3/330 and Sun4/330. These enclosures came either with Sun3 (68k)
and Sun4 (sparc) CPU cards.

Model numbers for rack VME-bus Suns are something like A/SE0 with

	A = Architecture (3 or 4)
	S = relative Speed - CPU board generation ( 1-4 and 6 maybee)
	E = Enclosure - number of jets when you hear
                        when you turn it on :-)
                        (1 3 6 8 9 I've seen)

This is a rough estimate. For details see the Sun HW FAQ. Field
upgrades (from 3/380 to 4/380 for example) were common. Just
swap 1 board and you got a new architecture. The OS upgrade
afterwards was not that fast.
