Hello I am new to the list and I will try to be as clear and
concise as possible.
Recently I got a JavaStation 1 , a sun4m class machine,
based on a microSPARC II processor and I noticed that netbsd
supposedly supports it in the -current. Because of my
dislike of javaos I followed the diskless install procedures
as I did with my sparc2 and elc which is netbooted with
netbsd.
I used the most recent snapshot I could find on the ftp site
for the tarballs/kernel/boot.net. I booted the JavaStation 1
with rc_configured=NO so I could make the devices but once
the machine tried to mount, I got a data fault and the
machine immediately rebooted. Note everything was working
fine until then.
So someone online suggested that the snapshot kernel is not
recent enough so I updated the source tree and recompiled
the kernel on my sparc2. Note I also had to recompile gcc
because of other old mailing list issues. Although the
sparc2 was very slow it got the job done. Note, the source
was updated May 28th and as of Mar 25, 2000: NetBSD/current
has been verified to run on Sun's Javastation 1.
Then I decided to try booting in multiuser mode just to see
what the problem was. Right after the motd update and some
errors about the lack of sed and cmp (I would guess this is
because it could not mount root) The machine data faulted
once again. I have looked through the mailing lists for
about 3 hours now and could find nothing. Anyone got any
ideas. Furthermore if anyone has any documentation on the
JavaStation motherboard please send it to me. I am very
curious about jumper settings.
