And this works without the modifications to zs.c, i.e. a GENERIC 
kernel from the binary sets?  Oi!  If so, that's strange -
kjetilbt@thomassen.priv.no reports that his machine doesn't grok
the serial console, and he's running an SS2 with PROM v2.4.1.
