I don't have this problem, with Dec 23 sources. Methinks your copy
of src/gnu/dist/binutils/objcopy.c is version 1.1, not 1.2:

Add '-d' flag for compatibility with the old strip.

Update that, and rebuild src/gnu/usr.bin/binutils/strip, and I bet
you'll be ok.
