What strange mapping do you have between device names and minor numbers?
Mine looks like:

molle# ls -l /dev/sd[01]*
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 0 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd0a
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 1 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd0b
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 2 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd0c
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 3 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd0d
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 4 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd0e
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 5 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd0f
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 6 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd0g
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 7 Nov 21 00:40 /dev/sd0h
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 8 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd1a
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 9 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd1b
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 10 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd1c
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 11 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd1d
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 12 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd1e
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 13 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd1f
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 14 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd1g
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 15 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd1h

Do you have something like

brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 7 Nov 21 00:40 /dev/sd0h
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 8 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd0i
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 9 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd0j
brw-r----- 1 root operator 7, 10 Nov 20 19:26 /dev/sd0k

?????? The last three are probably wrong if you do not have
a very special kernel. I have never seen partion letters
beyond "h". What /dev/MAKEDEV made these?!?!?

Harald.
