The A/B port has the pins in The Right Place for ttya, as long as you're 
not using fully-compliant 25-pin RS232 cabling and limiting it to the 8
basic functions (RTS,CTS,DSR,DTR,RD,TD,GND and something else, I think).

You're at CMU; that would put you, where, New York or some such?
Pity.  I have an AA/B splitter I'd love to just hand you, for I have no
need for it.  If UPS proves to be sufficiently cost-effective, I could
send it to you...
